Ever see this Disclaimer on someone's profile?
Ever see this Disclaimer on someone's profile? How many of us on Affairlook have seen the following disclaimer posted on peoples profiles? “WARNING: Any institutions using this site or any of its associated sites for studies or projects - You do NOT have my permission to use any of my profile or pictures in any form or forum both current and future. If you have or do, it will be considered a serious violation of my privacy and will be subject to legal ramifications. It is recommended that other members post a similar notice to this.” I must admit, I have often wanted to fall victim to the siren call of this disclaimer and post it on my Affairlook personal, also. But, on second thought, who came up with this bullshit? My question is this: what exactly is all of this disclaimer posting about? In addition, just because you have the disclaimer posted on your profile, how do you know for sure that your image will not be misappropriated anyway? First, I think it would be very hard for anyone on here to pursue any cause of action in a court of law. Come on really? Everyone is on here “discretely,” or with some desire to hide his or her face because “their Job is so important,” or just trying to have multiple sex partners. Why would anyone make public a profile that they want to keep so private? Second, whether your profile is used for testing, or some kind of research program, or for pornography news articles, how would you know whether your profile was used in a research program in India, or not? Third, wouldn’t Various, Inc., aka Affairlook, have some liability or issue with the taking of images on here, as well? Isn’t there some liability on its part for allowing the misappropriation, or negligently allowing the images on profiles to be used for some purpose that was not inherently authorized by each one of us in signing up here? Fourth, aren’t others already liable for the use of images that they don’t have the authorization to use, regardless of whether you post the disclaimer or not? Isn’t that why news programs can’t use your face for reports on infidelity unless you agree to the release? And finally, Fifth, even if you could somehow trace the URL to the computer that stole your images/profile, notwithstanding the time, money, patience and the knowledge of how to go about it, would the cat doing the stealing be worth suing in the first place? Please favor me with your thoughts my fellow Affairlook members! |

Gang I am truly flattered by the response I have received here in just a few short hours! That tells me I have hit on something, so thank you all for your responses. And I am thinking about filing a class action lawsuit against everyone who posts the disclaimer on their profile, so please sign up! lol

First of all, thank you for sharing your perspective and elaborating on the cookie-cutter disclaimer found across this site. Even though there is not much we can do about people using our online materials inappropriately, I believe it is necessary to add a disclaimer to every profile to help make dishonest people or so-called researchers assume we are serious about our own intellectual properties. A psychological thing, indeed. Last year, my original profile and pictures were lifted. One of the nice fellows from my network asked me if I had another profile with a different handle. But of course, I totally perplexed, and decided to pursue locating the stolen profile. I found it with some assistance, and I emailed her promptly. Guess what!? She removed it forthwith. Despite the instant removal, I re-did my profile and hoped no one would snatch mine ever again. Naturally, I did add the disclaimer to my profile after having the unfortunate experience and witnessing such a trend. It does actually make me feel better a little bit knowing that the disclaimer may incite people not to mess around with my personal stuff. I sure wish I could write legalese eloquently, as well as lawyers -- composing my own disclaimer.

I love hearing your "lawyer" talk . . . . mmmmmmm. Can I go to your office again and discuss this matter in full detail. I think you need to explain all my rights to me very slowly and carefully.

Hey there, I'm just wondering if you ever take time off work, because it sounds like your preparing for your next case. Either way, smart men are hot...especially when they are so passionate about a subject. Lynn

Everyone on here is great! Just so funny to see people be on Affairlook and tell me that their job is so important that they can't put a picture of themselves on here too. Why are you on Affairlook then? A politician ok got it! Other then that what is the issue? LMAO!

Ah well it's not about a job it's about someone I know, that doesn't know about this lifestyle, seeing me on here. I just googled my screen name and couldn't believe how many sites had me listed. My profile was used on other websites I've never heard of and one of them was an East Indian website. Really you should google your screen name and see what pops up.

Which is why you put the disclaimer on your profile. No doubt you cannot prevent some jerk from using your information, but that is not who you should be worried about, who you want to prevent from using your info is Affairlook to promote the other sites they own I've been on Affairlook off and on for 7 years and until I posted the disclaimer they had me as a member of every site they owned even the lesbian site with my photos. Now if you google my handle all you get is where I may have posted a comment in a group, but the site protects itself by forcing you to join Affairlook in order to see the comment. The disclaimer works if a large organization tries to use your info and they have a lot more routers the average Joe.
