Moon Shot

My were over the other night and we stumbled upon the movie Apollo 13. I've probably watched it half a dozen times and always love it. Great story, good moviemaking.

The question was asked, "would I want to go into space?"

My answer is always the same, "In a heartbeat."

I ended up in education and the arts as a career. But I was always strong in math and science, not astronaut strong, but they came easily to me. There is not much I wouldn't give up to ride the Space Shuttle, a Saturn 5, or whatever is coming next.

As quickly as we went from balloons to dirigibles to airplanes to space, you'd think we'd be a little better at it by now. It's really a shame. We can understand gravity well enough to propose the potential for using it to bend space to functionally exceed the speed of light in our travels ... but we can't even get back to the moon, let alone put someone on Mars. I just don't get what's so wrong with us. You'd think by now we'd be examining samples of Pluto, not delisting its planetary status.

Even an herb as sweet as basil is nothing without its bite.
