Day 1 of being 40

Odd... birthday's 30 - 39 upset me. 40? Meh.

My neighbor asked me how it feels being 40. I told her exactly the same as being 39. Though, to be fair, I spent a goodly portion of 39 mentally preparing for 40.

"They say life gets better after 40"
"Your first 39 years is spent stressing and worrying what others think... by 40 you no longer care"

Or it could have been my Unofficial 2015 motto: "F*ck this sh*t"

My birthday itself was rather lonely. I took myself to breakfast (Thanks, Denny's! Free Bday Grand Slam). Then hung out at mom's all day. She's out of town for a few weeks and I'm watering her plants. I also took advantage of her washer and dryer and watched DVD's all day. Then hit the bookstore and took myself to dinner on the way home (it was raining and I was tired so I didn't take myself for free Bday steak and potato at a local bar/restaurant this year)

Today was great though. Woke up to the most beautiful heart-felt message from my . She told her boyfriend last night that on their 's 16th Bday... she is going to give her the ring I gave to HER on her 16th. And all sorts of how much she appreciated me in her life, and that she'd have been lost and nowhere near the person she is today had I not been there for her all these years. (for those not knowing: I met her when she was 4. She's 24 now and expecting her first ).

I also got to spend textual time with somebody I love and, due to time difference, we "shared" a birthday for 8 hours.

An aunt and uncle took me for a picnic in the lilac gardens at Manito Park. Today was the perfect day for it... sunny and warm but breezy so not too hot. Pic is from the internet... I was dumb and didn't think to take any myself

Happy New Year to me!!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

I hope I can figure out how to make the next decade feel as long as age 10 - 20 felt. I don't want it gone in the blink of an eye.

Agree 40 is just a day after 39....

demonicsexkitten replies on 5/17/2015 8:46 pm:
True. Though 34 was a day after 33 and I woke up with 20 grey hairs not there the night before I'm still rather upset by that lol.

Sounds like you had a great day dsk...

Also, it looks like your aunt or uncle was driving as you did not get lost... just sayin'... it could have been an interesting story of how you ended up in Canada on a 3 hour tour... never mind...

happy birthday to you!

Thanks *HUG*

Happy birthday! I LOVE my 40s so far!

Age cannot wither her, nor custom stale
Her infinite variety. Other women cloy
The appetites they feed, but she makes hungry
Where most she satisfies. For vilest things
Become themselves in her, that the holy priests
Bless her when she is riggish. ~~ from Antony & Cleopatra

That's awesome I've started workout programs here and there but it's too easy to fall back into lazy habits. Though somebody just created a fitness program for me with TONS of encouragement. And somehow the idea of working out makes me feel closer to him so I will just ride that feeling until fitness becomes a habit and lifestyle change.

Sometimes things get better with age. I've had more fun since I turned 70 than I've had in years. Particularly 60 to 65 when I retired.

Have you accepted that gorgeous green drum into your heart, or are you still holding out for your red love?

demonicsexkitten replies on 5/18/2015 4:03 pm:
I will forever hold out for my maroon love.

The purple djembe a friend "loaned" me has made it's way into my heart.
I'm, so far, merely accepting of the green drum. Poor thing.

I never expected to live to see thirty, so it's all good!
Thirty and forty didn't bother me much but when I turned fifty it began to dawn on me that I might get old. Not grow up- just get old.

I've been looking forward to being a grandma since my early teenage years. Just thought there's be "married with kids" in there somewhere.

Belated happy birthday! As someone with nearly eight years' experience of being in his 40s, I'm comfortable saying that this decade can, if you're open to it, see some incredible opportunities open up. Some will be exhilarating, some will be the type you laugh about in hindsight, and some, you'll find, will make you wish you'd run screaming from them...

but they're definitely going to open up for you. Enjoy 'em, and keep us posted!
