Black and White- 15th Virtual Symposium!  Black and White “Could be clear black and white Make a decision Got a need inside and I don’t know why It’s a strong feeling that grows and grows One day – my life is out the door Next day – you show me what it’s for One day – I think I knowmyself Next day – you leave me on the shelf” I was listening to this song “Black and White” by INXS. It talks about how some people have a hard time making up their minds when it comes to their potential dates or mates. Let analyze the lyrics. Could be clear black and white, make a decision, got a need inside and I don't know why it’s a strong feeling that grows and grows: Basic idea of yes or no….should I stay or should I go? Do want me to be with you one minute and the next minute to get the hell away from you! I have met too many woman and men who don’t want to be alone. They feel insecure and lonely. They meet someone who they know is not the one for them, but they string this poor sap along- waiting for the “one.” Only the one doesn’t show up, but their psyche won’t allow them to be alone. So they keep bounce around from person to person stringing them along. They ignore them for weeks, but then call them out of the blue. It gives that person mixed messages. They feel like they are the one, but you treat them like number two! It’s a vicious cycle and the user doesn’t see it…the more they crave for someone to fill their loneliness the more it makes them feel alone. My life is out the door, you show me what it’s for, I think I know myself, and you leave me on the shelf: Being wishy washy and not brave or fair- it’s selfish and dishonest. It’s like your door is always open waiting for the “knight” or “princess,” but once people start coming in you don’t let them truly get to know the real you. You show them what you want to show them but you never really care for what they want. It’s always take, take, take- never giving. You don’t really know who you are- you are deluding yourself. You think it’s everyone else’s fault, but it’s really your insecurity and poor self-esteem that’s holding you back. You treat others like a classic book you should have read but you never have. You buy it and you leave it on the book shelf. You know the story and you have touched it and perused it many times, but you never committed to read it. Black and white. Yes or no. To be or not to be. Make a decision. Don’t be wishy washy. Dating, hanging out, being with someone, and meet and greets are time to test the waters, which helps see how others tick and learn things about you and them. Learn who you are and who others are. Finding out what you like and don’t like. Binary decisions are hard. Life is hard. But, once you make a choice stick with it. Respect and honor yourself and others. Black. White. Brown. Yellow. And all colors in between. Have fun. Who knows, you may find what you are looking for! But, if you don’t, then don’t fret too long for it gives another chance to start looking again. Life is what you make it. Live it in the here and now. Live it black and white…try to stay away from grey. All of my life, I have thought simply. Black and white seemed the easiest way to think of things. But... honestly, life is gray. A balance of black and white is gray. Coincidence? I think not. Interesting meditation on black and white and decisiveness. I tend to be gray in my thinking -- trying to see perspectives and influences beyond the initial -- to a fault: One of my closest friends, who is absolutely a black-and-white individual, constantly calls me on this. But the willingness (or, in my case, the compulsion) to see things in gray does not preclude the need to make decisions... because the only thing worse than pulling a Hamlet in one's thinking is pulling a Hamlet in one's actions. And I echo Kzoopair... I wish to hell I'd thought of keithcancook's comment first, too! Great contribution! I do have one request: Would you be willing to put a link to the master list of symposium participants into the blog? Your readers might enjoy reading the other perspectives on the topic. Then again, they might not...
